The recent information evening was a great success and was attended by the Principal and representatives of the Board of Governors.
Mr Armstrong reflected on the numerous successes of last term and looked forward to the new school year by giving a brief summary of the new School Development Plan.
Our ICT coordinator Miss Selby outlined how Inchmarlo uses iPads as part of our ICT provision (full details below the images)Mr Guy and Mr Armstrong then illustrated how they approached the teaching of P7 Numeracy and Literacy and how parents could reinforce and support the learning at home.
Coffee was available and parents were encouraged to meet the teachers in their classrooms.
iPads at Inchmarlo
There is no doubt that apps are extremely useful for practising a skill - spelling, multiplying, reading etc but at Inchmarlo we are keen to continue to develop the use of the iPads for creative and multi skill purposes with a special focus on literacy. For the iPad to have an impact on the creativity of teaching and learning in literacy we will be using them to give the boys a tool to present their ideas and writing in various formats
The apps we are using in school will help the boys animate, create books, comics and films, manipulate images and do lots of other whizzy things to support writing, speaking and listening.
The boys don't have to always present their writing in a word style document, for example they could:
Act out an imaginative story and video it using iMovies,
Write and illustrate a fairy tale with Picturebook
Create an animation based on a familiar story using Sock Puppets or Puppet Pals HD,
Plan, write and make an ebooks using My Story - Book Maker for Kids, Creative Book Builder, Book Creator,
Photo stories: SonicPics
Plan and create a comic using comic life
Publishing apps: Pages, Keynotes.
Present an explanation or an argument using Telegami
Mind map information writing using Popplet
Filming a book review and discussing presentation skills
Present a lesson on a topic such as coordinates and film using the iPad- did your classmates understand your explanation?
Create an advert on Moviemaker
Parents are of course encouraged to engage with their son when he is using the educational Apps.
